Mining Ministry
11 July 2012The ministry in charge of the mining sector in Burkina is the Ministry of Mines, Quarries and Energy (MMCE). It organizes the mining sector through the implementation of mining regulations in force implementing the promotion and enhancement of the country’s mining potential. In the framework of the promotion of mining sector, the MMCE organizes workshops called “PROMIN” the latest edition “PROMIN 2012” was held in Ouagadougou from 6 to 8 December 2012 under the theme “Mining and Community Development.” PROMIN is a framework for discussion between mining professionals, investors and policymakers, through which numerous conferences are delivered enabling actors to expose the mineral potential (technical and socio-economic aspects) and the new challenges of the mining sector in general. It is a framework for promoting both the State and mining companies as well as geo-services companies that display their expertise to the general public.
The central service, backbone of mining activities, is the Directorate General of Mining, Geology and Quarrying (DGMGC). It designs, develops, coordinates and implements the policy of the Ministry in charge of mines through four directions:
• Directorate of Geology and Mining Cadastre (DGCM)
• Directorate of Mines (DM)
• Directorate of Quarries (DC)
• Directorate of Small-scale mining (DEMPEC)
Research and mining, operation of quarry substances are monitored under scrutiny. It manages mining titles, collects duties on these titles and ensure strict compliance with the regulations in force. Applications for various permits and renewal are filed and processed at DGMGC.
