   KIERE MAGANESE DEPOSIT

Location and Access

Kiere Manganese deposit is located 20 km to the N-NE of Hounde (approximately 200 km west of Ouagadougou).
The site access is possible by paved road to Hounde and than by a 7 km of gravel road built by the company.
Burkina Manganese S.A. a subsidiary of ACM Corporation is currently operating the Kiere high-grade manganese mine, in production since 2010

HISTORY
• Kiere deposit was discovered in 1932
• Previous exploration (historical work including trenches, drilling…) identified a geological resource of about 600,000 t at grades of 45-55% Mn.
• April 2008: ACM Corporation announced that its subsidiary, Metal Mass Pty Ltd., received its Exploitation Permit from the government of Burkina Faso, enabling it to commence production at the Kiere mine. Burkina Manganese S.A., a subsidiary of Metal Mass was created to operate the mine.
• The mine construction, allows installing a crushing plant and developed needed infrastructures and roads.
• Kiere mine has been in production since early 2010.

GEOLOGY
The Kiere Deposit is located on the Hounde Birimian greenstone belt in the Dossi-Kiere gold district.
The early Proterozoic (Birrimian) greenstone belt of Hounde southern extremities is north-northeasterly trending, but further north the trend changes to northeasterly.
The Kiere manganese deposit is situated at the South of the Mana gold dposit.
It consists of a lenticular ore, hosted in a set of metamorphic quartzite and schists (laminated mafic volcanic rocks). The whole form a hill dominating at 80m height above the surrounding flat land.
The manganiferous layer outcrops on the crest of the Hill over 550 m strike length. Its thickness varies from a few meters to 50 meters. It has a general trend of N 30 ° E and a steep dip of 70 ° to 90 ° eastward.

Mineralization
The ore is constituted of a black rock, hard, massive, with a pretty well marked sedimentary layering. It is formed by manganese oxides: pyrolusite (MnO2) and cryptomelane (KMn8O16) with manganite inclusions and a gangue of Garnet and iron hydroxides. Grades are average of 45%, with a maximum of 55%.

Resources
The work carried out (trenches, drilling) indicated about 600,000 tons of proven reserves of manganese ore at average grade of 45%. The company plans further work aimed at increasing the resource at depth and along strike. Work carried out by the company to date has indicated the potential for higher grades at depth below the existing open pit resource and has also identified a number of targets along strike.

Operations
Kiere mine has a capacity of 600,000 tons but is only weakly exploited due to difficulties of equipment and qualified personnel. Indeed, on 10 thousand tons of monthly operations that were expected, it produces 3,000 to 4,000 tons per month only and is considered a small mine.
