BOULSA DEPOSIT

Project Location and Access

The Boulsa Project is over 30 contiguous permits, 100 per cent owned by West African Resources and comprises tenements covering 6,370km² and 200km of strike length of prospective Birimian terrain. The project is located 90km east of Ouagadougou the capital city of Burkina Faso and immediately along strike from the emergent 5.2Moz Au Bombore Deposit.

The access and infrastructure are excellent as project is adjacent to a national paved highway and local infrastructure includes a high voltage power line nearby, access to sufficient water and a large labor force.

 

Project history

–¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† The exploration work at Bombore during the period 1989 to 1994 with GMC conducting regional soil geochemical surveys, trenching and rock sampling covered partially the project area.

–¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† West African Resources has been active in Burkina Faso since 2007.

–¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Wide-spaced auger geochemical sampling was completed in 2009 by West African Resources over 25km of greenstone belt and has identified robust targets at the Moktedu and Meguet areas.

–¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† July 2010, peak of up to2810ppb Au Multiple zones of anomalies was defined on Meguet Prospect.

–¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† November 2010, RC Drilling of cumulative auger anomalies, significant artisanal mining,¬† Infill Auger and RAB.

–¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Moktedu discovery was made from first principles in 2011.

–¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† June 2011, West African Resources acquired the Sartenga Permit.

–¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† RAB drilling was undertaken at Meguet during the 2011-12 extending mineralization to the southwest. The high-grade gold from surface was follow-up by RC and DD in April 2012.

–¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† In June 2012, significant copper-gold mineralization was intercepted by wide-spaced core drilling at the Sartenga prospect.¬† Subsequently West African announced a significant discovery of copper-gold mineralization.

–¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† West African declared a maiden resource of 174,000t copper, 651,000oz gold, 11,000t molybdenum and 2.5Moz silver at in June 2013.

–¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† In December 2013, West African acquired Channel Resources which has a 90%-interest in the Tanlouka Project adjacent to Boulsa Project.

Project Geology

The Boulsa roject is situated on the northeast-trending Manga-Sebba belt that is a prospective early Proterozoic (Birimian) granite-greenstone that hosts the 5.2Moz Au Bomboré (Orezone), which is immediately adjacent to the southwest corner of the Boulsa project. Boulsa is bisected from southwest to northeast by the Markoye Fault, a major crustal-scale shear zone to which a number of deposits are associated including Taparko-Bouroum (1.7Moz Au), Essakane (6.5Moz Au) and Kiaka (5.0Moz Au).

Regionally the geology of the project is characterized by mafic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks intruded by ultramafic, diorite and granodiorite intrusions. A major shear zone corridor is interpreted as a subsidiary structure to Markoye fault. More locally the project area is geologically dominated by granitoids, mafic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks and minor volcano sediments.

v The Moktedu prospect is located at the South west of the project and is characterized by a dioritic intrusion that is strongly sheared and constitutes the main host to the mineralization.

v The Meguet prospect at the north of Moktedu is sitting at the contact of a granodiorite at the east and mafic vocanic / volcaniclastic rocks to the West. This contact is oriented NE-SW and is sheared with associated en echelon like E-W quartz veins.

v At Sartenga the geology is dominated by the volcano-sedimentary rocks of the greenstone belt that hosts the porphyry copper-gold intrusion system. It is characterized by high sulphide content with the predominant one being bornite.

DEPOSIT TYPES

The Sartenga Copper-Gold-Molybdenum-Silver mineralization is porphyry-related wide-spread shallow gold and copper supergene mineralization passing to primary high grade mineralization at depth.

The Boulsa project gold deposits are shear zone-hosted or orogenic gold deposits, similar to that found elsewhere in late Proterozoic Birimian terranes of West Africa. These hydrothermal deposits are typically late orogenic deposits and exhibit a strong relationship with regional arrays of major shear zones.

 MINERALIZATION

Boulsa project host several mineralizations zones the more advanced prospect being Moktedu gold, Meguet gold and Sartenga copper-gold deposit.

v Moktedu corresponds to near-surface oxide gold mineralization. Mineralization is controlled by a shear zone within a dioritic intrusion forming a wider alteration zone around the mineralization with a notable near surface supergene halo.

v The Meguet Prospect is located just at the north of the Moktedu prospect. Mineralization occurs within east-west trending stacked gold bearing veins, within an overall northeast mineralized trend. It consists of high-grade oxide mineralized bodies.

v Sartenga deposit is a porphyry-related gold-copper-molybdenum deposit  with an extensive gold-copper mineralization in wide-spread shallow gold and copper supergene mineralization as well as primary zone of mineralization in the fresh drill core. A higher grade breccia zone along the south-eastern margin of the deposit,includes strong copper, gold and molybdenum grades. Bornite is the dominant sulphide mineral and mineralization shows potential to create a high-grade copper-gold concentrate.

Sartenga Mineral Resources

West African Resources Limited (ASX: WAF) reported a maiden Inferred Mineral Resource estimate for its Sartenga copper-gold-molybdenum-silver deposit, part of the Boulsa Project. The Mineral Resource estimate for Sartenga contains 174,000 tonnes of copper, 651,000 ounces of gold, 11,000 tonnes of molybdenum and 2.5 million ounces of silver. It was independently calculated by Ravensgate Mineral Industry Resource Consultants and has been completed in accordance with the guidelines of the JORC Code. All the mineralization is in the Inferred Mineral Resource category and includes drilling data up to the end of May 2013.
